Saturdays 23rd Aug and 20th Aug
Any tuesday regulars (with armour) not wanting to miss 2 week's kendo are welcome at Sanshukan on thursdays - there will be no charge of course. Don't forget also that Mumeishi Kendo Club also practice on tuesdays, between Heathrow and Hounslow, a 40 minute drive from Reading.
11 Aug 2014The club would like to say a big thank-you to former members Dave Hawkes and Matt Watkins for their extremely generous donations of unwanted kendo armour. As we all know, kendo armour is not cheap, and their kind donations will help out years of beginners to come.
12 Jul 2014Congratulations to Pip Cox on reaching third place in this weekend's Premier's Cup! The club was well represented at the event, with everyone who took part scoring ippon and winning at least one match. Pip fought very well on the day, making short work of a nito opponent and his sempai on the way, before eventually losing the sem-final to a 4th Dan - well done Pip.
19 May 2014Grading success. Congratulations to the following club members on their successful grading at Watchet at the weekend: Allan - Ikkyu, Jason - Shodan, Dean - Nidan. Well done all.
21 Apr 2014Congratulations to Pip on passing his BKA Level 1 Coaching course at the weekend. The club now has a healthy complement of qualified instructors which bodes well for the future.
17 Mar 2014Taikai news. Congratulations to Alex and Kei for coming third in the Army Invitational Taikai. A great performance given they were competing in a 3-man shiai, conceding a match each round. Well done also to Pip, Tim and Jack, placed 4th after losing the 3rd place playoff to Alex and Kei. Well done all those who competed - a very good showing on behalf of both dojos. Special mention to Jack and Chris B who drew numerous comments about the quality of their kendo in their first taikai, a great credit to their dojo and to their instructors.
14 Oct 2013Following on from Robin's great start to the weekend, congratulations to the following members on their grading success at Mumeishi on Sunday - Pip (2nd Dan), Robin (1st Dan), Jon (1st Dan)

27 Aug 2013 We are pleased to announce that Dave Pepper has agreed to continue the Saturday training at Kendrick School in Reading after the current beginners’ course. This means that all future beginners courses for both Reading and Sanshukan clubs will take place on Saturdays, beginners courses will no longer take place during the week-night sessions. The 12 week beginner courses will be alternated with 3 months of intermediate training designed for people to develop on from the beginners’ training or for people who wish to rejoin the club after they have been absent for some time. Another beginners’ course will be started after approximately 3 months and therefore we are aiming for two beginner intakes per year (roughly in Q1 and Q3)

To enable Dave to plan his sessions, participation in the Beginners course for experienced club members will be restricted to those who are assisting Dave and who have asked and been given his permission to join. This is not a chance for general practice and will therefore not be charged for. The Intermediate sessions are primarily aimed at ungraded and Ikkyu grades who are developing/ rejoining. Therefore the level of these sessions will be aimed at this group of kendoka and any senior grades who attend will be expected to support development NOT to just practice for their own benefit. Participation in the Intermediate sessions will be charged for and included in the session count used to calculate monthly membership fees.

As a reminder, club subscriptions are paid monthly by standing order. The monthly cost is based upon the number of sessions per week that you intend to participate in. In addition, all club members must join the BKA. As halls have to be booked regardless of whether you turn up or not there will be no refunds – before anybody asks!

If you intend to go to ONE session per week (at either Reading on a Tuesday or Saturday or Sanshukan on a Thursday) then the cost is £15 per month.

For £25 per month you can attend any number of sessions per week, but if you are graded you can only attend Saturday sessions with Dave’s permission – which can be removed if you are not helpful! ;)
